Weddings in 2012
With over 20 year’s experience in the event industry, Cleveland Wedding DJs, Selective Sound have seen a variety of tends come and go. We predict a variety of changes in 2012. A general trend that has been taking place over the last few years has been an emphasis on value over excess. Our wedding clients have been spending the same as year’s past but they are looking for a greater return on their investment.
Here are a number of predictions we believe will be trends in 2012:
1. Smaller Guest Counts. Guest count management will be more important in 2012. The emphasis will be on a quality experience vs. the quantity of guests.
2. Vintage Designs. Vintage looks are going to be more popular. From dresses to favors, vintage looks representing specific eras will be hot in 2012. Especially in photography, due in part to the popularity of applications like Instagram.
3. Organic design influences. Tables dressed with sod, fruit used in centerpieces, elemental inspiration, mixture of differentness size centerpieces, etc. Everything looking uniform and sterile is out.
4. Photo Favors. Photo Booths and Green Screen Favors are still climbing in popularity for weddings. In other event types, they are considered a staple. Often, wedding guests use their green screen or photo booth photo almost immediately by posting their photo on their Facebook page.
5. Tangerine Tango. Pantone’s color of the year is called Tangerine Tango. Look for brighter colors to dominate wedding design in 2012.
6. Lighting Design. Uplighting has become almost a necessity for weddings but look for event lighting design to catch on more in 2012. A lighting designer, like a DJ, creates a custom experience based on how the crowd reacts.
7, Wedding Logos. Weddings are now creating a logo for their wedding and using it in everything from the save the date, invitations, menus, green screen backgrounds, gobo lighting, and anywhere else they have control over. Sometimes it’s as simple as a specific font and the couple’s monogram and other times it’s a more elaborate graphic design.
8. Suits. Suits for the groomsmen are on the rise. Tuxedos are limited in their design. Clothing, as a whole, has become more and more casual and this is both an extension of that trend and the fact that suit colors can more easily be controlled to match the wedding’s aesthetic design.
9. Green Weddings. The green movement has been influencing events for the last decade in increasing amounts. In 2012, you will see more couples adopting a few green practices here and there. Bridal clients understand that it does not have to be an all or nothing choice.
10. Party. Stale purely ceremonial receptions are not going to be the way people celebrate a wedding in 2012. Couples want to PARTY! It’s going to be about letting your hair down and really having a good time above traditions and doing things “the way they’ve always been done” this year.
