Wedding Venue Tips – Cleveland Botanical Garden

The Naturally Beautiful Wedding Location

Some wedding reception venues are impossible to duplicate. This is because they serve a very specific purpose outside of their use as a space for events. The Cleveland Botanical Garden is one of those to the extreme. It has a look that you can’t deny is spectacularly unique. This is because its priority is to show off the natural splendor of the vegetation it holds. It’s the furthest look from a hotel. However, if florals are a vital component of your wedding vision, this is the superlative venue to express it.

Cleveland Botanical Gardens Has Dozens of Options

The Cleveland Botanical Gardens is made up of  10 landscaped acres. The formal and natural gardens make it one of the most sought after places in Cleveland for outdoor wedding ceremonies as well as reception options. Some of the most in-demand areas they offer are their Rose Garden, the Japanese Garden, a terrace with a fountain and lily pond and many indoor spots such as the Ellipse (featuring natural sky light and striking view of a Madagascar oasis), Clark Hall, with a sunset view and the Western Reserve Herb Society Herb Garden.

Planning Details

The Cleveland Botanical Gardens exclusive catering partner, Bon Appetit, has lots of custom menu options for wedding guests to enjoy. They will present your guests with innovative cuisine, alive with flavor. The Garden’s reception venues and reception halls accommodate up to 220 people for wedding receptions. Even with this many guests, there is still plenty of space for a dance floor and head table. A wedding ceremony can also be added to your evening rental of the gardens, and can begin as early as 6pm. The Cleveland Botanical Gardens website has a breakdown of each room including capacity for sit-down dinners, cocktail parties, and ceremonies. The seven main spaces have great flexibility as well as ways to combine spots to create a custom flow.

Cuyahoga County Courthouse Tips For Lighting, Entertainment and More

What You Need To Know About The Cuyahoga County Courthouse

We’re back with more information you can use to plan your Cuyahoga County Courthouse wedding! If you haven’t already, check out our previous post about on basics of this downtown Cleveland event space. We’re going deeper this time with more specialized tips including information on catering, entertainment and lighting. This is one of the most sought after and unique venues available to couples and that’s why it’s worth investing a lot of time into looking at the space with open eyes before committing.

It Has Character

While there are venues in Cleveland that are more affordable spaces to rent for a wedding, they usually require you to invest in decor in order to make it more grand looking. This is not the case with the Cuyahoga County Courthouse. Less is more because the venue is bold, big and breathtaking. When comparing venues, make sure to take this into consideration. The money you save on decor might be the difference you need to make the Courthouse fit your budget. Decor choices should be more subtle and reflect your sensibilities more than anything else. There’s no need (and no way) to cover up any of the look of the architecture. The goal should be to embrace the aesthetic and not overdo it. Here are a few tips from our founder, Jeremy “Jay R” Rich:

Lighting Design at the Cuyahoga County Courthouse

Not all lighting designs work in this venue. Because the building is not a neutral blank slate, going against its established design features is a waste if even possible. What works here is subtly. Warming up or cooling down the features of the venue is one technique that works and can make for some striking designs. If you start with trying to narrow down the feeling of what you want for the look of the night vs. getting into specifics, you’ll be in a much better place to collaborate with a true lighting designer who understands this venue. Ultimately, it’s your decisions that we’ll go with but we won’t hesitate to inform you on the building’s strengths and weaknesses. When you choose true professionals, you get more than order takers…you get invested consulting. Here’s what Jay R has to say about lighting at the Cuyahoga Country Courthouse:

Sound Works Differently Here

One thing you’ll hear about from any wedding supplier who works at the Cuyahoga County Courthouse is the acoustics are a little different there. This space couldn’t be less like a hotel ballroom with their uniform shaped rooms, typical ceiling heights, and soft sound absorbent surfaces. The Courthouse has none of those features! This is a marble very open space with pillars which would be a challenge for an entertainer less familiar with what they would be getting into there. Here are what Jay R says you should take into account because of the uniqueness of the Cuyahoga County Courthouse:

We hope all these tips we’ve shared as the result of years of experience serving couples at this historic and grand venue make a difference in your planning. If you have a specific question that was not addressed here, feel free to drop Jay R a line!

The Knot best of weddings Hall of Fame

The Knot – Cleveland’s Best of Weddings 2019 Pick and Hall of Fame

Consecutive Years of Excellence

The Knot best of weddings Hall of Fame

We are excited and honored to have become recognized by The Knot for Best of Weddings Hall of Fame

We’re very proud to announce that Selective Sound Entertainment has been inducted to The Knot Hall of Fame by earning the Best of Weddings 2019 Pick this year.  Being recognized as the Best of Weddings Pick for the past four years has been an honor but the Hall of Fame means so much more. This is for our contributions to Cleveland wedding receptions. Offering our clients superior entertainment, lighting, audio / visual production, photos booths and more, we’ve prided ourselves on offering the right services for the right clients. Being inducted into this Hall of Fame is wonderful reassurance that our hard work isn’t going unnoticed.

There are many self-described ways for a company to boast about their achievements. However, we find superlatives like this to be more meaningful.  The Knot’s Best of Weddings list requires a company to have consistent, high volume, positive reviews from clients. That means we’re not the ones saying we’re “the best in Cleveland”, our clients are!

A Winning Team receives Hall of Fame Award

Quote: We had numerous guests with music/DJ/performance backgrounds and several came up to us afterwards and mentioned he was the best DJ they've ever experienced. - Katrina M., The Knot

We truly enjoy exceeding people’s expectations.

There are a few ways we ensure consistent favorable reviews by those who hire us. Firstly, we take care of our team. Some companies are seen as “hit or miss”. This is because they have some super star team members and some that are just so-so. Team members train for months and are constantly evaluated. The team members must prove they are worthy to lead a team for a wedding. Then, team members are paired with clients based on personality and client needs.  In order for everyone to get what they want, we always do our best to make sure our DJ and clients will work well together. We’ve had team members work with us for decades because we listen to them and value their contributions.

The Right Clients

Quote: I love this company! Selective Sound is so professional organized. I never had to worry about anything. - Katrina M, The knot

Everything we do is for our clients to receive the best entertainment experience possible.

Selective Sound Entertainment tries to ensure events are consistently successful. You will see many subjective reviews on The Knot while reading through bad reviews. Consequently, we believe the event partner could have avoided the bad reviews if they had asked the right questions. If a review states that the company didn’t offer enough value, it’s usually because of a miscommunication in expectations. We let our clients know up front before they hire us that we are not the cheapest in Cleveland. What we focus on, instead, is offering value. Because of this, true professionals, who have seen it all, will give you things like insight, a worry-free experience and organized meetings. While that might mean we’re not the perfect fit for everyone, those who do appreciate those qualities will be rewarded.

Passion For Weddings

This isn’t a part-time job for us – this is our full-time focus. There are many ways to earn a living through entertainment and/or audio visual solutions.  We choose this path because our favorite part of our jobs is creating memorable positive experiences for families on these important days. When you compare us to many other organizations offering wedding entertainment, we think that’s an important distinction – focus on a specialty.

Couples have a lot of justifiable fears going into planning a wedding. This is usually due to the size of investment they are making in addition to the fact that most have never hired these services before. We believe that being a wedding professional means that you should also be passionate about education. We make sure our clients know what to expect throughout the process so there are no surprises. Even outside the scope of our offerings, our years of experience and local connections are available to clients on a host of wedding-related questions that they may have. We consider ourselves a resource and not just a vendor.

Quote: We booked with Selective Sound before we booked our venue-lol! We know the entertainment is a HUGE part of receptions and they definitely made ours AMAZING. -Melissa M, The Knot

Reception hall for wedding at Sapphire Creek Winery in Cleveland Ohio

Cleveland Venue Spotlight – Sapphire Creek

Chagrin Falls Winery & Gardens

In 2016, our region can claim to have the Napa Valley venue experience it has never had. Sapphire Creek Winery & Gardens takes the scenic beauty of Chagrin Falls and gives it a vineyard spin due to the design concepts of The Ohio Valley Group. This venue is part of a 10 acre footprint and features a 11,000 square foot building that serves as a restaurant and event venue. This venue offers event clients a lot of different space options as they have multiple rooms each with their own unique charm.

Larger Weddings

Their Oak Room has a feature which we know wedding clients are always looking for: a wall of windows. This is the best way to embrace the outside while inside and is something you seldom see hotels able to offer. This space accomodates for 170 guest and can grow bigger still by adding on their Brix Tasting Room. The tasting room space has even more windows which feature the surrounding woodlands. The subtlest amount of uplights can be utilized to accent these rooms to coordinate your colors and play into all the architectural strengths. Depending on the time of year, The Pavilion at Sapphire Creek offers an outdoor space ideal for 130 or less guests. A stone fireplace and the venue’s Edison lights (one of our favorite looks) make this feel like an outdoor villa.

Smaller Weddings

We think Sapphire Creek is about as ideal as you can get when it comes to smaller weddings. Intimate groups are very popular with our more mature couples especially who know what they want and are focused more on tight knit groups. Scale of guests doesn’t have to mean you have any compromises though and this venue has spectacular spaces appropriate for groups of 50 or less. The Cellar Lounge has everything you’d want from a spot featuring a celebration of wine including a wooden wall, fireplaces, Edison lights and proximity to a wine cellar with 5,000 bottles. The venue also offers weddings the chance to use their Loft which is located above the trees over Sapphire Creek. This is the perfect oasis for bridal parties pre-ceremony or reception.

Photo Opportunities

Scenic outdoor backdrops for wedding photos are very in demand in Northeast Ohio. We end up seeing the same spots used time and time again. They end up being either far away from the reception, which can cause timing issues, or so in-demand that there are multiple couples on any given Saturday fighting to use the same spot. Sometimes it’s both of those issues! Sapphire Creek is so wonderful because they can give you these vignettes all on the grounds of the property. Oak and Beech trees frame the great lawn which can give wedding photographers a lot of options. This area can even be incorporated into your event’s space options. The gardens and main terrace show off that this venue was created by owners who are also exterior designers. Your photographers will have a blast coming up with iconic shots of you and your guests here.

Selective Sound at Sapphire Creek

We had the honor of providing a number of entertainment and audio services for both the ceremony and reception of Chuck and Shireen on July 7, 2018. The day kicked with two cultural family traditions within the overall celebration of the couple’s commitment to each other. Both and American and Persian ceremony took place at the venue which was enhanced by our ceremony audio support. What followed was a 7 hour reception that offered a variety of entertainment for the guests.

Chuck and Shireen share our love of live music. Therefore, they included a quartet of musicians for one segment of the day in addition to an acoustic guitarist. Spacing out sections of the day with different types of sounds makes the transitions more defined and natural. Our MC and DJ team included a mix of music for everyone including a really fun and upbeat Persian cake cutting song (which is something everyone should see some time!). Soon after that, the Swenson’s food truck came by the close the evening out. It truely was a combination of elements unique to this couple.

Our founder, Jeremy Rich was on hand and had a lot of compliments after seeing this venue in action. “You could tell they have a very dedicated staff that truly cares about every guest at the wedding”. Jay R said, “What a beautiful venue!”, “It’s obvious it was built with weddings and receptions in mind.” and “Glad I had a chance to try their amazing food and equally impressive presentation.”

If you’re looking for a venue for your next event that embraces nature, wine, and the wood and stone aesthetic of a vineyard, you really owe it to yourself to look into Sapphire Creek.
